2007 Summer Trade Show Invitation
Latest Ask Ty Response Posted
Illinois, USA
June 15, 2007
Ty has posted his response to this week's winning Ask Ty question. Can a turtle beat a hare? Just ask Ty!
Q: Which Beanie would most likely have the fastest time in the Beanie Baby 5K Run/Walk on June 24? (submitted by scooby20)
A: That's an easy one . . . Speedy the Turtle !
The Next Ty Australia Exclusive
Australia
June 15, 2007
Readers have informed me that news of an exclusive beanie is circulating throughout the internet. The country exclusive report that I referenced in my June 13, 2007 column was on the upcoming style, Koowee the koala Beanie Buddy. Out of respect for the source's wishes, I purposely withheld the name of and additional information about the plush toy.
Now that you know about this adorable marsupial, here are more tidbits worth sharing:
Koowee Beanie Buddy is a larger version of Koowee the koala Beanie Baby. The Buddy will be introduced as part of the July 2007 introductions.
The source states that official pictures (graphics) of this Beanie Buddy have not been received. For comparison, check out the announcement of the Beanie Baby version on Ty.com (July 28, 2004) by clicking on the graphic to the left or click here.
The buddy version, like the Beanie Baby version, will be exclusive to both Australia and New Zealand. The Beanie Buddy will have an Australian (not New Zealand) flag embroidered on its thigh.
Bean Watcher comments: Many thanks to the source for sharing this news with us. Also,
Based on readers' comments, an excellent source for Australian exclusives is Belinda Janes, a reputable Ty Australia retailer. The buddy is currently available for pre-orders at a cost of $15.95 AUD (approximately $12.14 US). The cost of shipping is extra. Click here for more information.
There will be additional surprises, but I will likely wait for other sites to post the news first. If the news has not been posted near the time of the official introduction, I will share the information with you.

Heading Back Home....
USA
June 13 - 14, 2007
My vacation (holiday) has finally come to an end. So, there will be no updates for today. I am scheduled to return in the evening, so if I have sufficient time, I will post a column for tomorrow (Thursday, June 14th).
I am working on a few reports... including news of another country exclusive. You'll learn more about it in the days and weeks to come. In the meantime, I hope you'll find the beanies you want. And as always, happy hunting!
What's in a Name? Piran the Bear
England, UK
June 12, 2007
Ty officially introduced the UK exclusive, Piran the bear, on May 29, 2007. Just eight days later, on June 6, 2007, all three versions of this Beanie Baby were retired. Many regular readers know that the bear's name is associated with the legendary hero from the Cornwall area. But for those who do not, consider these points (from Wikipedia.com):
Saint Piran or Perran (traditionally in Cornwall, saints are named without the Saint title) is an early 6th century Cornish abbot and saint, supposedly of Irish origin.
He is the patron saint of tin miners and is generally recognized as the patron saint of Cornwall.
Saint Piran's flag is a white cross with a black background. Saint Piran's day is March 5th.
For more information about Saint Piran, click here.
Abbey Bears Version of Piran is Official

June 12, 2007
Incidentally, it is worth mentioning that all three versions of Piran the bear (including the Abbey Bears exclusive) can now be found on Ty.com.
All three bears are listed as retired on Ty.com.
All bears have the same hang tag poem (but the Abbey Bears exclusive has a tag that differs in appearance from the "retail" versions).
The three versions, additional information about each one, and links to their pictures can be found in the table below:

The promotion features Champion the bear, a store newsletter, and an optional shirt and tie.
Only 30 pieces were created. Collectors could purchase only those flag-nose versions that were still available.

A CHERISH Update
England, UK
June 11, 2007
Sue Owen from the UK, a supporter of CHERISH, has posted news of her latest fundraiser. Sue shares the following:
A new eBay (UK) auction has started for a package of five Cornish-exclusive beanies (the three versions of Piran, the original Kernow Beanie Baby and the new Kernow key clip). All beanies have been signed by their designer, Morley Lester.
The package includes a selection of Cornish goodies - pins, piskies, recipe books, postcards, calendars, maps and leaflets. The extras were donated by Jenni of Abbey Bears and the bears by Abbey Bears of Padstow. Click here or click here to view the auction (or search for item number 170120759900 ).
There are also four 'Jump for the Cause' Cure/Lullaby commemorative sets available from the CHERISH website. All sets have all been signed by Mallory Lewis (daughter of 'Lamb Chop' ventriloquist Shari Lewis) and expert skydiver/fundraiser Kate Cooper. Visit the CHERISH website and follow the link to see pictures and read all about how these sets came to be produced.

USA
June 11, 2007
Daniel from Maryland, webmaster of Beanie Universe, shares the following information:
The birthday for KnOWLede the owl is June 19, 2006.
O'Lucky the bear has silently retired on Ty.com (On June 1, 2007, this beanie was listed as sold out at Ty Store). Click here to see the silent retirement.
A reader from the USA asks the following question:
Did MC Anniversary 5th edition the bear come as a brown nose and MC logo nose versions? If so, which one is more rare?
Bean Watcher response: This credit card exclusive bear, to my knowledge, was shipped to collectors with a black nose and a Master Card logo embedded in it. I am unaware of any bears that were shipped with a brown nose OR any that lacked a logo.

Seratti House's Tribute to Two Japanese Folklore Heroes
Tokyo, Japan
June 10, 2007
Sakurako from Japan shares her report of four recent promotional bears from Seratti House, a Ty Japan retailer.
The bears pay tribute to the legend of Yoshitsune (a general of the Minamoto clan in Japan) and Benkei (a warrior monk who served with the general).
Both fought side-by-side in different feudal wars. Their enemies sought to capture them. In the end, in the castle of Kormogawa no tate, Yoshitsune ended his life (through seppuku) and Benkei was killed with arrows while battling soldiers on a bridge. Click here for more information.
Seratti House introduced limited-edition promotional bears on May 5, 2007 (Boys Days in Japan) that feature the two legendary heroes.
Four exclusive Beanie Baby bears, all wearing traditional Japanese clothing and sporting a special hang tag. were used in the following quantities:
* Ushiwakamaru (Yoshitsune): Nipponia (20 pieces) and Daichi (30 pieces)
The limited-edition bears quickly sold out and can only be found on the secondary market. They are certainly a worthy tribute to the two legendary real-life heroes!
Ty, Inc.'s Official 2007 Summer Trade Show Schedule
USA
June 9, 2007
Dusty from Texas and an anonymous source both share official images of Ty Inc.'s 2007 Summer Trade Show schedule. Of particular interest -- the invitation states that there will be SIX new trade show exclusives.
As I suspected and reported in my May 30, 2007 column, images of the previously-posted NASCAR bears were likely (and indeed are) from this year's Summer Trade Show invitation.
The front side has the words, Who's that girl?; the Ty Girlz logo; the six recently-introduced Ty Girlz styles; and the caption, Visit the Ty Booth to order Ty Girlz!
The back side has (among other things) the following:
* The words, 2007 Summer Summer Trade Show Schedule and underneath it, Visit our booth to see our 6 cool new trade show exclusives!
* A list of six (6) trade shows, dates, booth numbers, and locations.
* A picture of three NASCAR-themed bears (previously posted).
To view the front and back sides of the invitation, click on the thumbnail pictures or links in the table below. The message, Visit our booth to see our 6 cool new trade show exclusives! , is clearest in the second graphic.

Bean Watcher comment: I have not been able to confirm that the six trade show exclusives will all be NASCAR - themed Beanie Babies, but it would be logical to assume so.... One new NASCAR bear for each of the six shows.
The Boblins' Popularity in Australia
Australia
June 9, 2007
Apparently, the four Boblins Beanie Babies -- Yam Yam, Gully/Gimmy, Ruddle, and Pi -- have sold quite well in the Land Down Under (Australia).
The animated series is broadcast on ABC2 -- ABC Australia's digital channel company. The show has taken off and there are now talks with potential licensees (non-Ty, Inc.) to market backpacks, books, show bags, and home furnishings (click here).
ABC Stores (the TV channel that broadcasts the shows) is a major distributor of the new Boblins beanies. The store has literally purchased nearly all of Ty Australia's existing inventory.
What will the future hold for these four plush toys (and forthcoming additions)? We'll know more in the months to come!
From the Email Bag -- Are KnOWLedge and Snowdrop the Same?
Massachusetts and New Jersey, USA
June 9, 2007
Brendan from Massachusetts writes: Snowdrop and KnOWLedge have the same picture on Ty.com, therefore, they must be the same style.
In reality, they are the same (or similar) style, but were produced in different years. Jennifer from New Jersey states it best (slightly edited):
I can tell you KnOWLedge and Snowdrop certainly have different tush tags... each with their own names.). [KnOWLedge's style number is 47066]. Snowdrop's style number is 44095. KnOWLedge's tush tag is dated 2007 while Snowdrop's is dated 2006, leading me to believe with as similar as they may be, they were indeed different production runs.
